The first step to goal setting is figuring out what you want to accomplish then write it down. If you don’t have goals or need to update them, take the time to write down what is important to you. Is it getting healthy, getting a new job or just adding more organization to your life.
I try to evaluate my goals on a weekly basis but sometimes I forget or I don’t accomplish the goals from the previous week and I get discouraged, that’s OK. Understand that life is a journey and not a finish line, the same applies to your goals. We are constantly evaluating and reevaluating what works for us. The most important aspect is that we are consistent and persistent.
The point of goal setting is to set your intentions and to think about the steps that it will take to get you to your goal.
It takes the process and cuts it into attainable bites so that you don’t feel overwhelmed.

If your goal is to lose weight, then you should consider the steps that it will take to get you to your goal. I set small attainable goals so that I won’t get discouraged.
- Consider increasing smaller goals into your life. Make big goals smaller and attainable. Break them into smaller pieces.
- Re-evaluate them on a weekly/monthly basis. Do you need to set more aggressive or less aggressive goals. Are they still in alignment with your purpose/intentions?
- Make your goals viewable. They need to be viewable on a daily basis. Hang them up, put them in your phone, make them accessible.
- Set a time line. A goal is not a goal without a timeline. You can always change it as needed but make sure that you set a timeline.
