I decided to try fasting after reading about the benefits of fasting. For my first fast, I only drank water and kombucha for 30 hours. There are so many benefits of fasting that range from:
1. Weight loss – you can lose weight especially if your body goes into ketosis
2. Sharper brain activity – you lose mental fog
3. More energy – you are no longer tired or fatigued
4. Feel better – more energy and mental sharpness
5. Fights inflammation – a national way for your body to get rid of toxins
6. Boost the immune system – cells rejuvenate quickly
7. Aides in cancer prevention
8. Delay of aging
I tried fasting for 30 hours. Fasting is not bad and you won’t die. Just drink plenty of water or kombucha like I did. I also took vitamins and drank green tea. Although I felt a little tired and hungry, the hunger went away and I later had tons of energy.
Quarantine is the best time to try fasting since you’re not going anywhere and you won’t be tempted by going out to eat.
When you break your fast, try to eat healthy foods like fruits and veggies. How you break your fast is just as important as fasting. Do not go crazy on eating a bunch of unhealthy high caloric foods. If you do, you will gain the weight back. Continue to eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water then repeat the process for continued weight loss or weight management.
Types of Fasting:
1. Water Fasting – drink only water during the fast
2. Juice Fasting – drink only fruit or veggie juice
3. Intermittent Fasting – most popular – food restriction during a 12 to 16 hour time frame followed by a normal diet
4. Partial Fasting – restriction of certain foods like meat, dairy, bread or processed foods
5. Calorie Restriction – taking in less calories for a few days out of the weeks
When I broke my fast after 30 hours, I ate a salad and drank plenty of water. I noticed that I ate smaller portions and I lost 4 pounds. It has since been a week and the weight has stayed off. So if you want to jump start a caloric change, try fasting.
