Every once in a while we all experience being depressed which can be brought on by stress, anxiety or life events. Although we can not control most of life’s events, we can control how we react.
We can choose to play the victim and think why is this happening to me? Or we can choose to take control of our lives and think what is this trying to teach me?
Life is happening for us and not to us
1. Get your body moving. Exercise is helpful for creating endorphins which is the body’s natural mood elevator. Not only will you feel better, you’ll look better.
2. Nourish your body with good food and plenty of water. High vibrating foods like fruits and veggies are essential for feeling better. Take note of how you feel after eating a high caloric meal like processed fast food versus a freshly made meal with natural ingredients consisting of lots of fruits and veggies. Drink plenty of alkaline water.
3. Calm your mind. Meditation is a powerful tool which helps to quiet the mind and be present. Living in the past or reliving the past makes us depressed. We constantly think about what happened or what could I have done differently?
These thoughts make us depressed. Let go and know that everything happens for a reason. Living in the future and constantly thinking about what you need to do, causes anxiety. By living in the moment we let go of the past and thoughts about the future.
The past is gone, the future doesn’t exist, the only moment is now
4. Spend time in nature. We are living organisms and we need plenty of sunlight. One essential vitamin that we all need is vitamin D. This vitamin or pro-hormone is produced by spending at least 20 minutes outside. It has many health benefits ranging from bone health to diabetes and cancer prevention.
5. Breathe. Be taking deeper breaths, we are adding more oxygen to our bodies and essentially to cells that may have never received oxygen since shallow breathers. Taking deeper breaths oxygenates the body and quiets the mind.
Those are tools that I use regularly to get me out of a low vibrational mood. Hopes that helps you too.
